Symposium submission
The call for Symposia is now closed.

The final program of 24 parallel symposia is available here.

Guidelines for Symposia

Symposia and all participating talks are to be submitted by the organizer of the symposium. Participants need not create a user account at the time of the submission but will do when receive notification of the acceptance of the symposium.

General information about symposia

  • The time allocated to each symposium is 2 hours
  • The recommended number of speakers is four (maximum five)
  • At the time of submitting a proposal, all participating speakers must have agreed to participate and confirmed to the symposium organizer that they will attend the symposium
  • Up to 20 symposia will be accepted. Talks from rejected symposia may later be submitted as posters
  • All speakers will be eligible for early registration fees after notification of acceptance of their symposium
  • Abstracts will be published in the online journal Frontiers in Human Neuroscience
  • Symposia should have a well-defined focus with all participants addressing the same problem area
  • It is highly recommended that symposia include a maximum of 4 talks to allow adequate time for the presentations, discussant's remarks, and questions from the audience
  • Each symposium organizer must submit a symposium proposal including the information described below

Information required when submitting the symposium proposal:

  • A 250-word summary describing the symposium's theme and integrating the participating presentations
  • Names, affiliations and contact details of the organizer and all participants
  • Title and abstract of each talk. Each abstract must specify the study's goals, method, a summary of the results, and a conclusion (conclusions should not be left open-ended, e.g., "The results will be discussed..."). Each abstract must be submitted as a single paragraph and should not be longer than 1800 characters (spaces included). This word count does not include title, author information and affiliations. In the title, use uppercase for the first letter in title only
  • Abbreviations (of compounds, for example) must be spelled out in full at the first use. Do not use abbreviations in the title
  • You will be asked to choose an appropriate topic area for your symposium, which will be used for session planning
  • Abstract should be submitted as unformatted (no italics, bold, tabs, etc.). Formatting is not permitted and will not appear in the final program
  • Please do not enter department, building, or street names in the Affiliations box. The name of your university, city and country should suffice
  • To avoid content overlap, organizers of symposia are advised to communicate with the Program Chair well in advance of the submission deadline regarding their topic and proposed speakers

Abstract Revisions

The Program and Scientific Committees will review all symposium proposals. Evaluations will be based on the information submitted by each symposium organizer. A clear integrative focus should transpire from the summary prepared by the organizer(s) and the abstracts from the individual participants. To encourage a synthesis of research, the Program and Scientific Committees will give highest priority to proposals that reflect interdisciplinary approaches to a topic and contributions from multiple laboratories. All submissions will be considered available for presentation on any day of the meeting.

Notification of acceptance or non-acceptance will be emailed by November 30, 2010. Both the organizer and each individual symposium participant will receive email acknowledgments. All correspondence will be emailed to the address entered by the symposium organizer at the time of submission. If a proposal cannot be accommodated as a symposium, participants will be given the opportunity to submit their work as a poster.

Poster submission
The call for Abstracts is now closed.

The call for poster Abstracts will be open until March 15, 2011 inclusive (deadline extended). The presenting author is responsible for submitting all necessary information, as described in the guidelines. Abstracts will be published in the online journal Frontiers in Human Neuroscience.

The conference will host four 90 min poster sessions. Presenting authors are expected to present during the whole duration of their assigned poster session. The Program and Scientific Committees of ICON XI expect high quality posters. Based on scientific quality and time availability, the Program Committee may invite some presenting authors to present their work as a talk instead of a poster. In all other cases, individual presentation will be in a poster format.

If you have any questions, please contact info(at)icon11mallorca.org

Guidelines for Posters

Please submit abstracts according to the guidelines below:

  • You should be the first (presenting) author in order to submit a poster presentation. You may be first author on only ONE poster submission, and only if you are not a presenting author in a symposium. However, you may be co-author on more than one poster submission. When making an poster submission, please check with your co-authors to ensure that this rule is being followed
  • Poster abstracts must specify the study´s specific goals, method, a summary of the results, and a conclusion (conclusions should not be left open-ended, e.g., "The results will be discussed..."). The abstract title should clearly define the work discussed (use uppercase for the first word of the title only)
  • Abbreviations (of compounds, for example) must be spelled out in full at the first use. Do not use abbreviations in the title. Use only standard abbreviations
  • You will be asked to choose up to three appropriate keywords for your abstract, which will be used for session planning
  • The abstract must be submitted as a single paragraph of unformatted text and cannot contain more than 1800 characters (spaces included). The 1800 character limit does not include the title, author or affiliation information
  • Do not add formatting to the information submitted (no italics, bold, tabulations, etc.). Formatting is not permitted and will not appear in the final program
  • Please do not enter department, building, or street names in the Affiliations box. The name of your university, city and country should suffice
  • When preparing your poster, please be aware that the size of the display panels is 95 cm (wide) x 140 cm (high) (37 in wide x 56 in high)

Poster Awards will go to studies reporting findings addressing a question commanding general interest and making a new and important contribution to the field of cognitive neuroscience. The Scientific Committee will value the clarity of the abstract with respect to the definition of the research problem, the use of a sound and original method, the clarity of the results and the theoretical and/or methodological implications of the findings.
